Salt

PROTECTION & PURIFICATION

Salt is represents the Element of Earth (except Sea Salt , which is also associated with the Element of Water). It can be used in many Spells & Rituals as a tool, as well as an ingredient and is deemed an essential for beginner witches.

Salt is a mineral with a Cubic structure. This shape gives salt specific associations, such as: unity & balance, as well as differentiation. Salt possesses many paradoxical properties. When dry & concentrated salt is strong, so strong it can support the ceiling of giant salt mines, but if exposed to water, salt dissolves into invisibility. It is a necessary to sustain life, but in excess, salt can be poisonous (as it can absorb the water from organs & cause dehydration). Salt is common in Kitchen Witchcraft as it adds flavor, but excessive salt can lead to a bitter taste. Salt heals & stings, it can kill microbes, but can also destroy tissue.

As such, Salt is incredibly versatile. Some common uses include: cleansing & purifying, protection & banishment, as well as to absorb and hold energy. Salt exists in a variety of forms each with their own properties.

Silver Foxglove

Founder & Co-Creator

Hello, I'm Silver! I started this website because I wanted to help beginner witches find their path & to create a resource that might help dispel some of the perceived negativity that surrounds the term witchcraft.

Salt has been a part of human history as far back as the creation of life on this planet. During the Paleozoic area, when invertebrates evolved, the amount of salt in the ocean was much lower (1/3 of todays concentration). This salt ratio is mirrored in our bodies, our blood, amniotic fluid, sweat, tears and semen, all share this salt ratio.

During ancient roman times, soldiers were given a salt allowance, "salarium" origin of the term salary. this is also the source of the saying "a man worth his salt".
