TOOLS USED IN SPELLS & RITUALS

Before we discuss the use of tools, I must impress the importance of your own energy & intention. So many new witches get lost in the excitement of purchasing new tools & ingredients, and before they know it they have spent a fortune on herbs, crystals, & tools, and no idea how to use them. If you are new to the craft, my advice to you is go slow. Many common ingredients can be found in your backyard or local dollar store.

Many witches choose to use tools to help them direct, amplify, cut or generally manipulate energies during Spells & Rituals. There are a variety of tools available each with their own purpose, properties & symbolism.

Nevertheless, the only & most important tool you truly need to be a witch is your intention. All these listed tools will help to allow you to manifest your intension but are 100% optional. Just as a painter is defined by his art & not his paintbrushes; a witch is defined by her/his magick, not her/his tools.

Altar

is an area that holds all your tools, decorations, & offerings, used to help you focus & set your intention

Books

a witch needs many books, but the two most important are the Grimoire & Book of Shadows

Besom

is a broom used to cleanse and consecrate magickal & sacred spaces

Wand

is a ritual stick used to direct energy & manipulate power

Cauldron

is a pot or vessel that can have many functions

Chalice

is often used to hold ceremonial drinks or saltwater

Athame

is a double-edged ritual dagger used to direct energy & manipulate power

Censer

is a container used to burn incense, herbs & resins. Smoke represents the Element of Air

Candles

can represent Deities & the elements, used to hold power in Spells & Rituals, or in divination

Herbs

are sources of great power & each one possesses its own magickal & healing properties

Stones & Crystals

are like energy batteries & each one possesses its own magickal & healing properties

Salt

is protective & purifying, it can be used in many Spells & Rituals as a tool as well as an ingredient

Water

Bells & Singing Bowls

used in sound magick, & can be used in a variety of ways

Offerings

are gifts or contributions offered as part of worship
